Let the Road Games Begin: Summer Projects Hit the Pavement

Because of our mild climates, we have some roadwork going on almost all year, but in the spring the projects, the delays, and, inconveniently, also the traffic pick up on Bainbridge, making the delays longer. Here’s what we’ve got going on so far so you can plan alternate routes (except in the cases where all of the options are affected).

Fletcher Bay Road

This main thoroughfare will intermittently be reduced to one lane with flaggers throughout the month of May for PSE-directed power line clearance tree trimming. The work will be done by the always-fun-to-pronounce Asplundh company.

Koura Road (Near the top)

The all-important, east-west Miller-to-305 connector is having a new water main installed at the directive of the Meadowmeer Water Company. Lydel Construction is doing the digging and installation. Look for intermittent lane reductions and flaggers. This joyful experience will last through June.

Eagle Harbor Drive Near McDonald

The long-term fun continues on the main route toward the south end of the Island. The work involves replacing three power poles and 3,700 feet of wire. That is a lot of wire and so the work will continue at least through July. Potelco employees will be the ones holding flags and smiling at you as you wait for your turn to use the single lane.

Winslow Way

Happily this work is only on the Ferncliff end of Winslow Way—where the ferry parking lets out. The good news is it’s short-term water line work and is scheduled to end by May 26.

Fort Ward Hill Road

If you live in Fort Ward, it’s kind of hard to avoid this one. The work, which will happen between Bolero Road and Sunny Hill Circle, involves Potelco replacing underground conduits and wire, something called Capital Project Fort Ward Hill Rd – Phase 2. It ends in May. But wait—there’s more. For eight weeks in June and July, the same stretch will now get reconstructed by Public Works. So, basically, through July look for one lane with flaggers.

Only through May, this PSE upgrade project will entail the stereotypical “one lane with flaggers,” courtesy of Potelco.

Try to keep your Road Rage under control, be kind to the workers—it’s not their fault—and focus on perfecting your elbow tan.
